Eike-Henner Kluge, éthicien, soutient que la pénurie pourrait être moins grave si les travailleurs de la santé utilisaient les cartes de don d’organe signées comme preuve de consentement et cessaient de demander aux proches la permission de prélever des organes. Il affirme que les protocoles sur le prélèvement mis en œuvre par les sociétés de transplantation indiquent qu’il faut demander la permission des proches, même si une carte a été signée, et que ceux-ci peuvent annuler le consentement des donneurs éventuels.
